Tribute to Pappy B of the 214th
Tribute to a National Hero. Boyington is best known for his exploits flying the Vought F4U Corsair in VMF-214. Livermore area residents got to meet the real Pappy about 20 years ago at our local Livermore Airport. Even though I myself was a USMC jet fighter pilot, I was nonetheless too timid to approach Pappy on that day even as I stood only 50 feet away. Pappy was surrounded by hordes of parents and children…… maybe next time Pappy. ~S~
